Well done to Juli. Her prize was our help in running an Event at our premises and displaying her work in our shop on the Art Trail.
Juli is an independent artist painting part-time from a studio in Brixton. Born in Soviet Russia and raised in Switzerland and Toronto, Canada, she has finally settled in London, recognising it after a short visit in 2006 as her ideal city to live in.
The pieces are portraits of two London icons. One of the most fascinating and unique aspects of London life is the proliferation of excellent independent musicians and bands. Their talent, dedication, and energy, along with the availability of local venues, are a source of great joy and inspiration for Juli, and one of her favourite aspects of this city. She regularly attends gigs (most often in East London), and has met a number of musicians whose passion and talent are representative of this culture. Juli took great pleasure in representing these musicians as London icons as she finds them to be as integral to the spirit of the city as some of the well-known, successful London icons.
In her art, Juli seeks to combine realism and psychedelic whimsy to evoke the beauty and dynamic energy of a subject. Her paintings are brightly coloured and feature intricate patterns woven into large-scale portraits and still lives. She has been developing this style for over 3 years. The portraits are done in acrylic paint on canvas.
