Once you have a stretched canvas the next step is to prime the canvas so you can paint on it. A primer seals and protects the support, makes the canvas less absorbent, helps the colours stand out, can provide a smoother surface with enough tooth for the paint to bind onto, and is, therefore, an excellent surface for both acrylic and oil.
