Luminance 6901

Founded in 1915, Caran d’Ache are a Swiss manufacturer dedicated to quality, precision & innovation, best known for their high-quality fine art materials, writing instruments & luxury accessories.

In 1931, they released their first coloured pencil to critical acclaim & from there, quickly expanded their product range with the introduction of both the Prismalo & Neocolor ranges in following years.  Turning their eye toward luxury accessories, the 1970s saw them begin an ongoing tradition of working alongside various artists and designers including Paul Smith & Keith Haring that's going strong even today.

Now that we've established their legacy built upon a foundation of traditional craftsmanship, collaboration & attention to detail... we come to our main topic.

Luminance 6901

Combining intensity with exceptional lightfastness & a smooth, luxurious application, these permanent artist-quality coloured pencils come in a broad palette of 100 colours, available both individually & in numerous sets.

Today, we’ll be going over just a handful of their key features to understand just why they’re so beloved.

.

Colours

Their impressive palette of 100 unique, blendable shades are made using high concentrations of pigment for bold, intense colours that offer excellent opacity & coverage.

These pigments have been finely ground for smooth, even applications & a variety of other techniques including gradients, shading, blending, overlaying & mixed media applications.

.

Lightfastness

Regarded by many to be the "most lightfast" coloured pencil range available, they're manufactured to comply with the highest international standard for light resistance in coloured pencils (ASTM D6901), so you can rest assured that your work will remain as clear & vibrant as the day it was made.

.

Lead & Body

Durable & break-resistant, their 3.8mm diameter leads use a creamy, wax-based binder that ensures a smooth application & excellent coverage whilst also facilitating the layering & blending of colours.

This is then further protected by an ergonomically designed body of sustainably sourced, FSC-Certified cedar wood marked with the relevant colour, for ease of use.
