How To Create A Pumpkin Bat

Today we’re showing you how to make your very own bat-o’-lantern with a miniature pumpkin! If you’re looking for easy to make Halloween decorations or for something to keep the kids occupied during the upcoming half term then look no further…

1

What you’ll need:

3 Step 1: Use a firm paintbrush to apply an even coat of black acrylic to your pumpkin. If your pumpkin has a stem you can paint it green or brown for a touch of contrast.

Step 2: Leave to dry for 30-60 minutes. One coat should be sufficient but you can always apply another if necessary.

5

Step 3: Fold a piece of A4 card in half and draw your wing shape and ears in pencil. Cut around the outline with some scissors or a cutting knife so that you have two identical wing pieces and some pointy ears.

6

Step 4: Use a marker pen to draw some spooky eyes on a piece of white paper. Cut these out and place them alongside your ears and wings.

Step 5: Affix your eyes and ears to the top and front face of your pumpkin using your glue of choice. PVA can be messier but it does tend to be more reliable than a glue stick.

7

Step 6: Fold the innermost edge of each wing backwards about 1cm. Use this small flap to stick your wings to the side of your pumpkin. Now your bat has come to life! You can also experiment with placing the wings in different positions to make it look as though the bat is in-flight.

It’s as simple as that! Keep a look out for more tutorials in the run up to Halloween and let us know what you’d like to see us make in future by emailing us via blog@cowlings.com.
