More Information

Formulated to enhance the creations of artists working with Liquitex Acrylic Paint, but equally effective when mixed with any Acrylic Colour.

Liquitex Professional Masking Fluid is formulated to block off areas on your work, to be peeled off at a later time, leaving no trace or marks where it once was.  After application & removal, this will leave a clean area with stark separation & reveal the layer underneath.

What is a Medium, how does it work?

Generally speaking, any liquid that changes the consistency of the paint into which it's mixed with may be classed as a medium.
By changing the properties of paint, a medium extends the possibilities of how an artist works with the colour, and affords a plethora of exciting techniques and effects.

Specifically, Liquitex mediums are designed for use with acrylic paints, making them suitable for a range of alternate techniques & producing effects ranging from a thin glaze to a thick impasto, with a myriad of choices in between.
Another benefit is that Liquitex mediums are fully intermixable with their entire range, water resistant, archival, PH neutral, non-yellowing and permanent once dry.

Acrylic Mediums: Exploring The Possibilities gives further information on the Liquitex range of acrylic mediums, and how they can be used.

Why choose Liquitex Masking Fluid?

Designed for the express purpose of creating separation between your colours & layers, for a mixed range of effects & expressive uses.

  • Covers areas of your surface to stop colour reaching
  • Peels off once colour dries to reveal a clean surface underneath
  • Leaves no trace or stain once removed

How to use Liquitex Masking Fluid:

  • To get the detail you want, first choose a suitable brush/tool for application (for instance, the Colour Shaper Tool)
  • Dip your applicator in soapy water before dipping in Masking Fluid, making the cleaning process easier afterwards.
  • Carefully paint onto the areas you want to protect
  • Leave to dry
  • Direct after application, wash your tools with warm soapy water (for a more thorough clean, use Masters Brush Cleaner or Soap)
  • Once dry, you can paint colour on freely
  • Remove Masking Fluid as soon as possible for best results, carefully starting at the corners and peeling back slowly

How not to use Liquitex Masking Fluid:

  • Do not use on damp or soft sized paper
  • Not recommended for thicker acrylic paint application
  • Avoid abrading or overworking areas where masking fluid is applied

Who are Liquitex?

Founded in 1933 in Cincinnati, Ohio by Henry Levison, Permanent Pigments, then producers of oil colours, developed the first water-based artist acrylic paints in 1955.
This new formulation was launched the same year, simultaneously with the new company name "Liquitex" (an abbreviation of “Liquid texture”), which Levison believed better captured the product’s essence.

Today, Liquitex offers a vast array of intermixable acrylic paints, mediums, varnishes, brushes & countless other options to better enable everyone from amateurs, students, hobbyists, artists & professionals to continually explore new and innovative ways of working with Acrylic Colour.

“I’m only happy when I’m trying to create something new”
