Video: Daler-Rowney Easels Range

Part of Daler-Rowney’s 'Simply' range, the Portable Field Easel offers a great value, affordable option to beginners and newcomers. A lightweight, folding aluminium easel, the Simply Portable Field Easel comes with its own black canvas carry bag, making it the ideal choice for both indoor and outdoor work.

Why use an easel?

Many artists prefer to use an easel because it enables them to work more freely, and to step back and view artwork from a distance. Working in a vertical position reduces the possibility of perspective being skewed, prevents dust gathering on slow-drying media, and the build up of loose pastel, chalk or charcoal sitting on the support.

Why choose Daler-Rowney Simply Portable Field Easel?

Designed with the cost-conscious artist in mind, the Simply Portable Field Easel provides a value alternative for beginning artists and students. In addition, this metal easel is convenient and lightweight, featuring telescopic legs for added stability.

What are the dimensions of Daler-Rowney Simply Portable Field Easel?

Weighing 0.76kg and folding to an easily portable size of 51 x 7 x 7cm, the Simply Portable Field Easel can accommodate a canvas or board up to 84cm in height.

Who are Daler-Rowney?

Established in 1783, by Richard and Thomas Rowney, Daler-Rowney has been manufacturing the finest art materials for over 230 years.

In 1963, Rowney became the first manufacturer in Europe to introduce artists' acrylic colour.  Widely used by artists, including well-known proponents Peter Blake and Bridget Riley, throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Rowney’s “Cryla” heralded a new era in art practice, which became known as ‘Pop Art’.

In 1983, the Daler Board Company purchased the George Rowney Company, forming Daler-Rowney Limited, as the company is known today.  Daler-Rowney now operates from three manufacturing bases, two in the UK and one in the Dominican Republic, where their artists' brushes are made.

Please note: this easel does not have a tilt function.

Nice and light, came in carry bag. I only had a small board and it worked well, but you might need something more robust for a large canvas

Sadly you get what you pay for. This easel is just about ok. It is too short even when fully extended for me to paint comfortably standing up. It is also quite flimsy and feels like typical mass produced Chinese rubbish. It is hard to get a canvas board to stay in firmly as the black bottom support doesn't sit properly on the screws and is very floppy. Had I seen this before buying I wouldn't have made the purchase but bought something taller and more substantial. Don't recommend this easel at all. Having said that they do offer the best price on it as I have seen the EXACT same one for more than double the price. What upsets me most is the fact that I am meant to believe that this product is made by Daler Rowney when it clearly is just mass produced in a factory in China and put in a Daler Rowney box while others will go into Hobby Craft boxes... etc, you get the picture. No pun intended.
