So, what are POSCA markers?

An undeniably iconic brand with a life story almost as rich & colourful as the markers themselves!

The very first range of POSCA markers launched in 1983, with just 4 tips & 22 colours.

At the time, graffiti was taking over the planet, ultimately even being displayed in museums.
Early generations of street artists quickly recognised their potential, claiming the markers as their own and exploring their technical potential.

After they became an indispensable creative tool for urban artists across the world, word quickly spread, with the markers being adopted by the broader artistic community.  Crafters saw the convenience, hobbyists loved the accuracy & even old school "traditional" studio artists eventually sought them out for the versatility.

Effectively bridging the gap between street art, fine art, crafts & customisation, it’s this exchange between communities that cemented POSCA as a universal, accessible brand working to drive artistic momentum & unite all creatives, regardless of medium or surface of choice, around a shared passion... creativity!

So what makes POSCA so unique?

THE TIP

With no fewer than 8 sizes & 5 tips, each perfectly suited to their respective use, from the ultra-fine, calibrated PC-1MR to the PC-17K with it's XXL rectangular tip.  Intended for intense, extensive use across a variety of surfaces, each of these tips is made using hard-wearing acrylic or plastic, guaranteeing a perfectly smooth line every single time.

THE VALVE MECHANISM

POSCA markers feature a unique valve mechanism developed to maintain a perfect seal for the marker, conserving the paint over time.  This is also the same mechanism used to activate, prime & re-saturate the tips as often as needed.

PAINT

Uniquely formulated & available in over 60 colours, their odourless, water-based paint has remained unchanged since the very first markers were released over 30 years ago!  Dense & richly pigmented, this layerable, mixable paint delivers consistently bright, matte & opaque coverage on an impressive variety of both porous & non-porous surfaces so you can enjoy truly unlimited creativity.

THE BALL

To ensure a consistent paint texture from beginning to end, a small ball has been placed in the barrel of the marker.
Simply give the marker a vigorous shake (with the cap on!) & you'll hear the characteristic clicking sound as the ball works its magic!

Sure, they can be used on a variety of surfaces... but how exactly do you make sure they stay put?

WOOD, STONE, METAL, GLASS, PLASTIC

You'll need 2 layers of water-based varnish spray in a finish of your choice.

First step is to make sure that your work has fully dried, of course.
Be sure to move into a well-ventilated area (or at least grab a mask).
Holding the can around 30cm from your work, start spraying in slow circular movements.

We recommend using a varnish from the MTN Water-Based range for the best finish.

PAPER & CANVAS

When used on paper or canvas, POSCA markers don't actually need a special fixative.
However, if you'd like to, you could add some extra protection to your work?

If so, simply follow the instructions under WOOD, STONE, METAL, GLASS, PLASTIC above!

FABRIC & TEXTILES

For this, you're gonna need some heat.

Again, be sure you're happy with your work & that it's completely dry.
You'll need to iron the fabric, making sure to do so on the reverse side (without steam!).

If the fabric in question can't be ironed, hopefully you own a hairdryer?
Hold the hairdryer around 30cm from the fabric & use small circular movements.

We would recommend something but... this isn't our area honestly.
Instead, some advice?  Try not to burn the fabric, yourself, the immediate area, other people etc.
